Our X-Perience.........

An Experience to be remembered and Well Worth the Trip….the Sentiments felt by all who attended!!!!

We were indeed blessed Spiritually, Emotionally, Socially & Physically at this spectacular event.  Don’t believe me???? Go ahead……ask anyone who attended.  We had representation from approximately 100 people who represented 28 churches.  The attendance at this event was exciting. There were SINGLES who came from Maryland, Washington DC, New York (Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island) New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and West Virginia.  They came by airplane, bus, van & car to get to the scenic Poconos, in Pennsylvania.  This place was the Split Rock Resort & Golf Club in Lake Harmony, Pennsylvania.

I personally want to "Thank" the 2008 Committee, for the time and effort put into making this event a GREAT SUCCESS.  Without all of them this event would not have happened. Ross Noe was the leader of this event. Thanks to our team: F.O.C.U.S. Founder-Andrea D. Hicks, Co-Coordinator-Michelle Reid, Budget Coordinator-Lisa Mitchell, Activities Committee-Christopher Hill, Yemi Falade, Yvette Meade & Jeremy Sherron, Music Coordinator-Fabian Morrison, Photography Coordinator-Nancy Rutledge, Webmaster-Ross Noe,  Consultants-Ross Noe, Jamine Hill & Audria Russell, Prayer Coordinator-Mervis Anderson, Keynote Speaker/Facilitator-Pastor John M. It is our F.O.C.U.S. to be able to assist in the transforming the lives of singles everywhere.

Re-cap of our Event.......

Friday, February 1, 2008 - Showers of Blessings came down on Friday.  It rained “cats & dogs” and we all drove along icy roads with fog and light snow. The scenic route could not be appreciated on the ride up due to the inclement weather. Our 46 passenger luxury bus from New York, pulled up to the Resort at 5:30 pm and the 15 passenger van from Maryland pulled up around 6 pm.  The lobby was soo spacious and nice.  Most of the folks who arrived were impressed as how nice the resort was.  The Registration Committee registered retreaters who started arriving.  They handed out the Welcome Packets which included: welcome letter, property map, colored program brochure and room keys. Dinner was served at 6:30 PM, and now even more of the Retreaters had arrived.  Our Praise & Worship session began at 8:30pm. Our 2008 Praise TEAM and Band were from the Miracle Temple Church in Baltimore, MD.  I just want to thank Fabian Morrison our Musical Director for organizing the 2008 Praise TEAM.  The Roll Call for the Churches was sooo X-citing....everyone got up, shouted and clapped when their church was called.  Christopher Hill MC for the weekend, welcomed everyone to our signature event.  We did Praise & Worship, the young people from hands of praise performed, after which Pastor John M. Scott from Toronto, Canada, spoke on the weekend theme “Royalty” It was sooo uplifting.  We were truly blessed by Friday evening’s program.

Sabbath, February 2, 2008 - We woke up to a sunny and bright morning.  Now it was time for our annual Prayer Walk.  Doug Goulding led approximately 13 Singles on our Prayer Walk, which ended up being a testimony session indoors (it was too cold to go outside).  We all listed why we were at the retreat and some listed what they hoped to gain from the retreat and some were not sure why they had come. We wrote our burdens on an index card and nailed it to a cross (Doug had a cross made out of wood) and prayed over them. We formed a circle and prayed.  Now it’s time to....you guessed it......EAT!!!   Breakfast was soooo delicious.  Even more Singles arrived on this day.  The 2008 Praise TEAM, had everyone praising and worshiping the Lord.  Fabian Morrison led the Praise TEAM.  The Band assisted the 2008 Praise TEAM by stroking the keyboard, drums & guitar with melodious tunes. The tunes were so nice that we attracted several other worshipers in the resort. Hands of Praise performed again and throughout the weekend.  The topics for this day were very serious.  Worshop sessions included Financial Information on debt management and Healthy Relationships. Pastor John M. Scott spoke on being royal priesthood and as Singles we are to be treated and look for royal like and god like qualities.  Many people were blessed during these sessions.  Then we...... yes.......we ATE again.....Lunch.    After lunch, Nancy Rutledge and Chip Dizard from PraizeVision started gathering the Retreaters together for our Photo Shoot.  We took a nice group photo on the steps next to the water fall in the lobby of the resort.  Now it was time for our next session, where the men learned about the R.E.A.L. MAN from Doug Goulding and the women learned from Pastor Scott, “What is that Man looking for?” Then we came together for a general session where attendees had questions on marriage, dating, relationships, courtship and more were posed and answered by Pastor Scott.  Now it was time for.....DINNER....  we ate again.  REMNANT ended the Sabbath with a Praize Fest!!!! They delivered in song and we clapped & sang and had a wonderful time. Now it was time for our "Saturday Night Live."  We started off with the "Gospel Slide."   Ross Noe and Christopher Hill came up with some real X-citing interactive games that required lot’s of stamina.  This social was the BEST!! The Social lasted until 2:00 am.  Boy do those retreaters have a lot of energy.....  We had an exciting time!!.  Some people still wanted to continue hanging out....so....the “After Parties” (playing cards, dominoes, group games, etc.) continued until……we’ll never tell J!!

Sunday, February 3, 2008 - This was our last day.... Another beautiful sunny morning.  Doug Goulding led out in the Prayer Walk which 8 Singles attended.  We all ATE our last meal breakfast. Pastor John M. Scott closed out the weekend with an exciting sermon and appeal. We hugged and talked and all shared similar sentiments of the exciting weekend.  Several of the singles took advantage of the many amenties of the resort, table tennis, pool, jacuzzzi, bowling, arcade and the spa.  So more adventerous singles went to the slopes at Jack Frost Mountain to enjoy the winter activities: skiing, snow boarding and snow tubing.  Now we are at the end of a most wonderful spiritually uplifting weekend.  Over these last days....there was a lot of networking, friendships & reconnecting.  A GREAT time was had by all.

In Closing - We would like all SINGLES to be ambassadors and share the experience and take back the information you learned to your local churches.  Then we will have more Singles who are ready for the next step........this step is a decision that only YOU can make.  Continue to peruse our website for upcoming events at www.focusnyc.org
