Ernie's Ideas:
You need more Drama in your life!
Let's bring back the Drama Ministry to AYS. Here are some great works to get you started. Check out: http://radicallyreal.truepath.com/amok/amokdrama.html
Collaboration
Few things are more powerful than young people interacting with each other. This is enhanced even more when they realize that there are others in other churches that share the same experiences and are on fire for the Lord. Therefore partner with your fellow AY leaders. Share programs, ideas and have joint AYS. You will get great results.
Service Activity
Expand your network of friends. This has been happening online for several years through popular venues such as MySpace and Facebook. It can be helpful, harmful, or alarming! Open up the networking with some accountability by having your youth group share with each other some new contacts. Focus on including older people: grandparent types. This is a cyberspace way to visit the retirement home. Doing this as a youth group screens out predators, provides new points of contact, and creates dialogue with and about the older and wiser crowd.

Ernie's Thought:
But the words of Jesus, "Blessed are the pure in heart," have a deeper meaning--not merely pure in the sense in which the world understands purity, free from that which is sensual, pure from lust, but true in the hidden purposes and motives of the soul, free from pride and self-seeking, humble, unselfish, childlike. . . . {RC 378.3}

Ernie's Ideas:
Using the internet
Take advantage of both the internet and content on "bmf tv" located on our website. The Sabbath message is the foundation of our church. We have an awesome 5 part film series entitled "7th day"on the history of the Sabbath on "bmf tv". Promote the series in your church like a real movie or tv mini-series. You may even want to give out free tickets. Show a film that fits your time frame. You may also want to show one over a 2 week period.
Munchies & Scriptures
Provide a service for your young people and for the community by taking them out to a fast food place for snacks, talking in a relaxed setting, and even a Bible study. Don' spring that on them. Let them know in advance that you'e planning to do all of those things. Why not mix munchies with Scripture, and why not do it in public? You may be surprised at the reactions you get and potential interest you might stir up. But don't do all of these things for show. They have enough merit on their own. You can really think outside the box and do it for AYS. Just make sure you set things up with the store manager to pay in advance.

People of Color in the Bible - 4-Video Set
Through the use of maps, charts, scripture quotations, genealogies, geography, and historical documentation, Dr. Emanuel identifies numerous people of color in the Bible.
Additionally, he cites their contributions to biblical history. People of Color in the Bible is unique because of its extensive use of graphics. This book is framed in easy-to-read language and it contains over 250 scripture quotations.
This volume contains ten or more quiz questions for each of its seven chapters. These questions are suitable for class work and homework and examination purposes, thus rendering this work an excellent textbook for home schools, church schools, and Sabbath schools. It's also a superb resource for in-depth personal Bible study. Colleges and academies use this work as a supplemental textbook for world history, world literature, and African-American history courses, and for Old and New Testament classes.

Ernie's Idea:
Take advantage of April Fool's Day. Share some examples of when you have made a fool of yourself as well as when others have made a fool of you. Too threatening? Then put your experience on a card (anonymously) and these could be collected and read in a random order. Transition to 1 Corinthians 4:10. Paul talks about being a fool for Christ. Michael Card has a song on the same theme (Only a Fool). A longer passage os1 Corinthians 1:18-31. Who's willing to be a fool for Christ?

People are jittery about the economy. The stock market is its usual, volatile self. But those without "stock portfolios" are now suffering as the housing industry crashes due to adjustable mortgages increases, banks foreclosures, construction stalling out, and prices plummeting. The conventional wisdom of investing in a home becomes suspect. While many youth aren't directly handling their family finances, they still are affected by it. Ponder Luke 12:29-34. Brainstorm on ways your youth can store up treasure in heaven. 1 Timothy 6:17-19 spells it out again in case they didn't catch it in Luke 12.

The Sabbath in Ethiopia
Author Bekele Heye documents the commitment of Ethiopian Christians to Sabbath-keeping from the time of the apostles to the 20th century. The Sabbath in Ethiopia highlights the intense resistance of Ethiopians during the 15th and 16th centuries when outsiders used a variety of strategies to try to change the day of worship in Ethiopia to the first day of the week. Thousands of Ethiopians gave their lives to defend the seventh-day Sabbath.
Charles Bradford, retired president of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in America who discovered the manuscript, says that the Bible puts the world on notice about Ethiopia's unique role in world history. Psalm 68:31 (KJV) states, "Princes shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall soon stretch out her hands unto God."
Noting that on page 577 of The Great Controversy, Ellen White states, "The history of the churches of Ethiopia and Abyssinia is especially significant," Bradford declares, "If Ethiopia is key to understanding the Sabbath in Africa, then Bekele Heye's book is key to understanding Ethiopia."

Henry Wright - The Change of the Sabbath
Summary: Did God show the prophet Daniel that a power would arise that would think to change His law? Join Pastor Wright as he examines the prophecy of Daniel chapter seven and shows how accurately it lines up with world history. Note: Careful listeners discovered an error between 38:55 - 40:53 of the sermon. Reference is incorrectly made to the Douay Bible (Catholic Bible) when it is in fact the Catechism that is quoted. Ernie's Thought:
When the youth give their hearts to God, our responsibility for them does not cease. They must be interested in the Lord's work, and led to see that He expects them to do something to advance His cause. It is not enough to show how much needs to be done, and to urge the youth to act a part. They must be taught how to labor for the Master. They must be trained, disciplined, drilled, in the best methods of winning souls to Christ. Teach them to try in a quiet, unpretending way to help their young companions. Let different branches of missionary effort be systematically laid out, in which they may take part, and let them be given instruction and help. Thus they will learn to work for God.--Gospel Workers, p. 210. {ChS 30.5}

Ernie's Idea:
AY Music Tasting Party
In the church we do a lot of complaining about the messages in a lot of secular music. Yet what do we do about it. We have a Christian music industry that is putting out some awesome stuff and our youth aren't hearing it. So how do we expose them to the best Christian music? Hold a Music Tasting Party!
The idea is simple really. Set up an area with CD players all around where people can check out great Christian Music. Use this area as the "Tasting Room(s)". In another area of the church set up a Mobile DJ and a video projector and show a video concert or have a live mini concert or both. Bring colored lights and a fog machine. The result will almost be like being at a real concert.
Obtain posters from a local Christian Bookstore to decorate the areas and ask the store to donate a bunch of door prizes. Also obtain coupons from the store which you can place on the tables next to the CDs to help the people purchase CDs they liked. Have a drawing for a free CD or some of the door prizes. In order to be entered into the drawing, the youth have to fill out an entry blank. Use the entry blanks to compile a mailing list. Make sure you get e-mail addresses and phone numbers also.
Now you may be thinking, where can I get enough CDs to pull off a music tasting party? The following are a few ideas:
-
Borrow, borrow, and borrow. Get them from friends and members. You may even be able to borrow them from your local Christian book store.
-
Tell stores who you are and what you are doing and they may sell some CDs to you at a discount.
P.S. Don't forget to talk about those ringtones on our young people's cell phones.

Ernie's Thought:
The work that lies next to our church members is to become interested in our youth; for they need kindness, patience, tenderness, line upon line, precept upon precept. Oh, where are the fathers and mothers in Israel? There ought to be a large number who would be stewards of the grace of Christ, who would feel not merely a casual but a special interest in the young. There ought to be those whose hearts are touched by the pitiable situation in which our youth are placed, and who realize that Satan is working by every conceivable device to draw them into his net. {CT 41.3}
